Advisors are your Friends

One of the easiest ways to make your life easier in business, or even for a big project, is to create a board of advisors. It doesn't take much effort and it can save you tremendous amounts of time and money.

There is very little secret sauce here. Look for people who have the domain expertise that you need and talk to them. If you like them and you think that they can help you, then you ask them to be on your advisory board. It's really that simple.

Once you've done this, then you need to take advantage of their expertise, and that requires some of your time and energy. But it is nearly always worth the effort. Good advisors can help you avoid dead ends. They can help you find solutions that already work. They can even help you add more advisors to your board.

One key to this is to keep it simple. Don't get too formal or too stuffy. Run it like you are having a friendly conversation and keep you mind open to what they have to say. In the end, great listening skills will serve you well here.
